Troy & Angie Warwick
I was born and raised in the small college town of Moscow, Idaho. It is nestled between the rolling wheat hills to the west and the influence of the Bitterroot Mountain range to the east. Moscow enjoys the extreme ends of all 4 seasons. The University of Idaho sits on the edge of town. It was a fantastic place to grow up. Some of my fondest memories are of walking to school in the fall with a blue sky overhead and the trees changing colors all around. Enjoying the smell of wood burning stoves mixed with that nip in the air that reminded you that summer was over. Just soaking up the fall with an air of confidence that only comes from knowing football is never more than 6 days away.
When I was 12 my mother died of cancer. It was a very difficult spring. It was then that I discovered the weight room. It was everything that I needed at that moment in my life. So many of the lessons that I have learned from exercise have greatly enhanced my quality of life and helped me to shape the husband and father that I am today. The gym is still my passion 30 years later.
I played 3 sports in high school and played baseball in Junior College. I returned to the University of Idaho to study Sports Science before finally receiving my degree from Cal State Fullerton. I worked as a Strength Coach off and on in Southern California before moving to Oakland in 2009. This is where I met Angie.
I was sitting in the trainer's lounge when she strutted into a room full of male trainers and said ”I am going to be training here, where do I put my stuff?” She had a permanent chip on her shoulder and this little half grin on her face like she knows something important that you don’t.
I have been head over heels in love ever since.
Both sides of Angie’s family hail from Wisconsin. She grew up in De Pere and bleeds Green and Gold. As a Redbird, she played volleyball for Coach Vandenberg and ran the hurdles for Dan Baker. She was there in the stands with her dad that cold, cold day Brett Favre brought the Lombardi trophy back to celebrate with 70,000 of his closest friends. After high school, Angie earned her degree in Exercise Science from UW - La Crosse. She has coached volleyball at numerous levels from U12 through college. She and I are both Strength and Conditioning Coaches certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. After college, Angie took a chance and uprooted from Wisconsin to travel 2000 miles to Northern California to take a job there. That is where she walked into my life the way that only fate and an inappropriate work relationship can!
We made family and friends travel from Wisconsin and Idaho all the way to the Pacific Ocean to see us get married in the fall of 2012. We opened Fitness Integrity in Alamo, CA in April of 2013. We set out to make a living by enhancing the quantity and quality of people’s lives. We have been blown away by how much that works both ways. We created an unbelievable community that is so much stronger than its individual parts. We have enjoyed the honor of working with a ton of incredible people who have been with us for many years. They have watched us grow into a family and we have been there as their families have grown and changed though the years. We built something far greater than a just a place to exercise. We are amazed and humbled everyday with what Fitness Integrity has meant to our lives.
My son Max is 14 and just started high school. Our daughter Kennedy was born in the spring of 2014. She has the same chip and the same grin. It’s awesome. Our son Jace arrived in the fall of 2015 and is determined to keep up with his sister. We love knowing that our kids are growing up hanging around a gym. The hard work and life lessons and character-building that comes from working out is invaluable. They are also surrounded by many individuals that feel that same way.
Thanksgiving of 2016, Angie’s dad, Jon, suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Our first thought was that we needed to move home to be of help to the family. Throughout this dramatic event Jon has shown such a positive attitude and tremendous courage that he has taught us a very valuable lesson. Life is short. There is no time to wait. If something is important for the future then do it today.
I told Angie that I love having a gym with her and that I couldn’t imagine us doing anything else ever again. I told her that we can have a gym anywhere. Having kids changes your perspective so very much. I told her that It was very important to me that our kids grow up in the same environment that I did. That they get the valuable opportunities to grow as a person that only come from a medium-sized community that values hard work, family, character and doing the right thing. I told her that I want them to grow up surrounded by family and have all four seasons and be able to walk to school and have lots of room to grow up and experience life. I told her we can’t afford to wait to do it 'someday' when all the pieces fall into place. We need to align the stars ourselves. Now. Angie said, "Of course, I feel the same way. I know just the place.”
So here we are.
